A Squirrelly Sequence

As some of you may already know, we are in the process of moving to our new place. We are not used to having squirrels as neighbors so please excuse me if these are somewhat of a common sight.

We thought it was funny though.

Although each image is full-frame, somewhat noisy as I had to push it last night to ISO 800.

i like the last one, just due to the pose. YOu'll be able to get lots of cool squirrel pics. you shoudl set up feeders that they have to jump to, etc and you can get "flying" squirrel pics and all kinds of cool stuff.


on a side note my uncle who has lots of bird feeders went out one winter and found between the outter screen and the inner fooder holder of a bird feeder a competely frozen splayed out squirrel. i think it sat on their porch until it thawed out :-)

Yep, squirrels are hours of entertainment. They come up on the decks and talk to the dogs through the window. Lots of nose prints!

I've posted a few of the characters both here and in the galleries. You'll have lots of fun this winter. They love shelled corn and sunflower seeds.

Get a few ears of corn and a holder. Then the ear of corn stays put while the eat and you have a 'squirel studio'. Just keep feeding them as they can become somewhat dependent on the food source.

Squirrel will even become accustomed to people that you can photograph them from just a few feet away. Lots easier than big long lenses.

Oh, if you want to keep them out of a feeder, use a shepherd's hook with the bottom of the feeder a 3-4 foot minimum off the ground and 8-10 feet away from anything they can leap from onto the feeder. Usually works . . .

Dylan, that's one gruesomely funny story. I can picture that one quite clearly

CDP, thanks for the information. It is helpful. I think I will have loads of fun with them once all the leaves fall off so that I can get some light on them. Squirrel threads - I saw you already started - will be coming soon enough

Side note: my spotters (wife and children) have seen two baby squirrels in the yard. Only thing is that red-tailed hawks have also been seen. When they appear, NOTHING appears alive in the yard. Hmmm, wouldn't a shot with both a baby squirrel AND a hawk be cool. I can only imagine!

LMAO!!! They are nothing more than rats with bushy tails If you put up bird houses, make sure they have steel rings around the openings.... or they will become squirrel houses.

Those things are a riot at times huh? As for a redtailed getting one..... in due time
