    Southern Fence Lizard

    Southern Fence Lizard
    Sceloporus undulatus undulatus

I found this lil' guy on a pine tree while shooting on the edge of the woods. I have always found the name of this species to be somewhat odd, as I have never seen one on a fence, yet I see southern scrub lizards on fences all the time, and rarely to I see the scrubs in the "scrub" where I see the fence lazards all the time. Go figure...

You've got good hunter's eyes to find him -- that's a skill I'm still acquiring.

I tell ya' LL, its all because of my childhood. I spent hours upon hours walking through the woods learning to see these animals that hide in plain sight. I still know a lot of people that consider themselves to be real good at spotting, yet they can only see these guys when they move. I can see the clear as day when they are as still and quite as a piece of bark.

I am not trying to toot my own horn, I do that in private, but its just the plain truth.

    Thanks for looking!

Shoot, I consider myself a junior level birder. I just need a good lens that can help me back it up...

Nice pics, almo. And very good eyes, too. Something I need to get out and get brushed up some. I usually do a pretty good job at that myself.

Birding and taking images of birds isn't the same Acute eyes and ears makes a birder and I think you are off to a great start. Some day I will get out to FL and I will be glad to flaunt my stuff, share my knowledge and even let you shoot my gear!! I am serious too.

How far away is Ft myers from you anyway? That is were I would most likely fly into if I went to FL.

Well there are only a few birds I can I.D. by sound, but I know most of the local species by sight, and a lot of other N. American species and others worldwide.

    As for Ft. Myers:

Total Est. Time: 5 hours, 10 minutes

    Total Est. Distance: 321.55 miles
