It also seems to me that in the winter time with snow on the ground and everywhere, you may be able to get closer to the birds easier. Guess it's more important to fill up their stomachs when food is already hard to find than staying away from predators like some idiot with a camera stupid enough to stay outside on a winter day with a temperature as low as minus 8 C
