Wow! I wish we had some of those in my parts. We probably do but I'm still too busy looking down at the ground in search of smaller prey.

I like the top one the best. The angle of the light showing the texture of the feathers, the classic hunting pose, the breast feathers (I guess one calls it that). I just might look up from time to time!

    Thanks Loupey!

I have been in a real photographic funk lately. Nothing I was doing was coming out right. It was nice to get a few that held up to expectations this time.

I was at an outdoor mall (Miromar) near Naples a few days ago and there was one in their mall plantings. I walked by him, about a foot away and stopped to observe him. I was cursing the fact that I didn't have my camera. This bird was nonchalant about the closeness and I could have gotten some stunning close-ups.

    Nice shots BTW.

    Beautiful shots Almo

Great focus and colors. Nice PP too. One thing I've noticed about "white" birds (and dark backgrounds) is that one can over-expose the subject. Nice control here...

    Re: Egret

This snowy egret is getting very close to full breeding plumage(the long feathers in the chest should get a bit nicer looking), so keep chasing it !

Snowy egrets are the dullest egret in breeding plumage, so images of them are rarer than the cattles that everyone chases due to the more beautiful breeding plumage.

My one suggestion is to get a bit lower, though these are quite nice overall as is.

I would have loved to get lower, but to do so I would have had to be in the water with the bird. I don't think he would have cared for that...

    Thanks for the comments all!

John..... not to be mean, but do you think it wants to eat your ugly feet

Did I mention the lagoon was in Ft Myers and the previous day I was at ding and was laying next to the water shooting a GBH when my viewfinder went dark. I looked over my camera as a MONSTER american crocodile(13 foot) was swimming 5 feet from me ;)

I moved away and tried to get atleast 9 feet away(my minimum focus distance) but it got spooked and swam too fast.

On my way out to start the loop again a 9 foot gator decided to fest in the road and block traffic, I waited 2 minutes, but it wasn't moving.

Guess what John(no joke) all 170 pounds of me grabbed that bad boy by the tail and PUSHED him across the road. No way was I going to try and drag him back . It had to weigh 300+ pound easily Sure it tried to bite me, but I honestly am not scared.

Here he is after leaving the road..... 10 feet away as I kneel in the lawn next to him in bad light ;)

BTW... We are tossing the idea of moving to the cape coral/ fort myers area around.... never know what a year may bring ;)

    Re: Egret

I know ;) I have done alot of insane things though, so that isn't to crazy.

Let's just say that I owned a 22 foot reticulated python(OK 21' 7") , a gaboon viper that was huge that was still "hot" and I held her weekly . My friend owned a 11 foot nile croc that I used to help him move to clean her pool(she was always angry) , my last dog I recued was 178 pounds and hated men(I wrestled him off a few times while he was trying to kill me) , I have been mugged 3 times, but never gave in to a gun in my face ;)

I put my life in my hands every day for 17 years doing tree work and nearly died when I cut my hand with a chainsaw (8 hours of surgery and a year of therepy). I have been in car accidents that were bad! I was side swiped at 75 miles an hour and pushed into the passenger seat(drivers seat was 1/2 there too). Was in a car that went THREW a telephone pole at 100(don't ask)

So you see, grabbing an alligator's tail and taking a ride wasn't any different than my everyday life Besides, you thought only Steve Irwin could do that?

    Back to Almo's image

Dude they are great as they are and your funk is over!
