    Comfy in the snow.

This rooster must have needed some cooling off. When I first came across him in the ditch, I pulled over and took a few out the window. Unfortunately, there was a truck coming behind me and no shoulder to pull off on. I then drove ahead a couple miles and came back. I got out and walked towards him, hoping to get a good flight shot. I expected him to explode into the air. Instead, he fooled me and started running first. My nice flight shot ended up not quite so nice. All he gave me to shoot, was his rear end. It sure would have been nice to have thinner clouds.

When I think back, that sure would have been an easy shot with the shotgun. :mad2:

Send some of that snow this way Mike! I'm ready to dust off the snowshoes. I really love the colors of these birds. Catch them in the right light and they are stunning.

Nice capture of a beautiful bird. Makes you think twice about those who condemn all 'invasive species.'

BTW, there are those who believe that pheasants have 'evolved' into more of a runner than a flyer because of our elimination of the ground predators like the coyote and fox. The major predators are now birds of prey and therefore a running pheasant is more likely to survive than one that takes flight.

It certainly wasn't ideal light. I'll try again on a brighter day.

Oldclacker, that makes a lot of sense. I just wish I could get this close when I have my shotgun with me.

Too bad you did not have a chance to get a flight shot. Sometimes they just do that to you.

Incidentally, some also suggest that the reason that penguins can't fly anymore because they don't have ground predators where they live.

Alas, I did get a flight shot. However, I'm never real thrilled with butt shots.
