    Hey Paul,

I 'cheated'...sort of...I found a website that you can listen to bird calls...add that to some recording software, an iPod, and some portable speakers....and voila! The cardinals came right it....I was surprised how well it worked.

It worked good on the cardinals, and the chickadees....not at all on the blue jays...they could care less.

One interesting note....the jays and chickadees were making their usual racket....I played the red-tailed hawk file....and the bush got completely silent instantly....they didn't make a peep until I played the cardinal file again.

I am going to try it in the spring in Point Pelee with some other songbird files.

get the tufted titmouse alarm call and alot of species will come

search BIRDPOD and you will see the real deal

I wouldn't try that at pelee in may because somebody might get a bit angry, especially those 600F4 carrying pros

    Paul,

I found that site you were mentioning, as well as another good one "www.findsounds.com"...

I will keep that advice in mind in the spring...I can see that maybe someone might get upset if they are lining up a shot and I call the bird away.... ;)

I am taking a trip to Amherst Island this weekend, so hopefully I will have some owl shots to post on Monday.

I don't know how good of a birder you are(I must say I am pretty good ), but a great grey would be sweet to see here as would a N.hawkowl. If you find a sawhet(need birding skills usually) , they are very easy to shoot with a 70-200 most times as their only defense is to not fly away.

Afew of my friends have birdpods from my suggestion to them, but they are birders and not photogs

WTP, I'm not a birder per se, but I love taking pics of cardinals and Blue Jays and a few others. I gotta say, these are wonderful. I wish I could get in that close to the birds I try to shoot. hehe...
    Great Job...

    Re: Male Cardinal Chowing Down

    Paul,

I downloaded some saw whet and snowy owl files today, I will look for great grey and hawk owl tomorrow. I am not too sure what all I will find there, but a photo that I chat with in another forum has some stellar snowy pics posted from there.

    Ken,

well...the ipod brings them in, but the 400mm brings them close. Those two were about 50 feet from me, and wouldn't let me get any closer, no matter how slowly I moved forward.
I wish there was some sunlight so that I could have used the 2x TC, but it was yet another grey, dreary day.

Here's hoping we get some sun this weekend!

    Cheers,

    Randy.
