    Snake ID please
Found this snake sunning itself in an oak tree hanging out over a lake. This was shot from my kayak.

northern watersnake, nerodia sipedon. They "brown out" with age. These are always one of my favorite snakes to find, despite their common-ness. I think that's because it was one of the first snakes I saw in the wild LONG before I was into snakes. It's a childhood memory I still have. Oh yeah, and the light's really nice too.

    Shot 1 is awesome.

Thanks for the ID Erik. That was my first guess, but I have never seen one that was this solid in color before.

Thanks Bob. I was a bit surprised when I first saw it! That first shot was a bit tricky do to the back lighting. Not to mention that I had to position the boat just right to get a good view and to stay far enough away that my lens would still focus. I had to move back a couple of times because I was within the min. focus distance of 9'.
