    Snake ID?
Caught this fellow swimming towards me today. He was a good 6 footer. This was in southern Florida in a slough.

Well it's hard to tell, but I think it's either a eastern kingsnake or a banded watersnake?

    Florida Kingsnake, Lampropeltis getula floridana

That looks like the extream southern morph. Are you located south of Okeechobee?

Florida Kings come in so many morphs, from almost completely gray, to almost jet black. Some have white stripes, some have yellow, some have gray. Some have no stripes and are completly covered in speckels. You never really know what you are gonna get with this species.

Thanks. This snake was in a Fort Myers area so mostly west and a bit south of Okeechobee.

Ok, that sounds about right. Northern part of that morph's range, but still well within it.

    Nice shot.

Thanks, it turned out better than I had any right to expect. I didn't have a polarizer but I must have been at a good angle.

Ditto that, Bev & Knight. If I had a picture of a snake, it'd be moving away from me, not towards me! And it would be a very blurry picture, since I'd be running in the other direction at a pretty good clip.

But it's a great shot of a snake in a natural setting.

It's a Banded Water Snake, Nerodia fasciata.

It would help if you guys would include the general location where you shot these images. I am asuming this was shot in the Ft. Myers area.
