First shot with new macro lens

Hey all,

Finally got my new lens today (Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM). Wasn't much light left when I got home, but I went out on my lanai and found this lizard out there. No need to really critique the image, as I literally just flopped on the ground and shot a few quick images at different apertures to see what it would do. I noticed a couple things about the lens straight away: 1 - No IS. If you move, it blurs, 2 - DOF is the name of the game in macro. Focus is in millimeters! It will definitely take some getting used to. 3 - ISO is an issue. I think I'll need to shoot this one around iso 200. I shot this image at 400, and saw a bit of noise at a relatively low crop. I'll see how it does in REAL shooting light this weekend. Bottom line, this is gonna be fun!

Please let us know how your feelings on ISO 400. I try not to go that high, but find I must with the shooting conditions.

Normally, ISO 400 on the 1DsMII is not a big deal. With this lens, however, I saw a bit of noise on this particular shot. I will definitely put it through the wringers this weekend, and see how it does in decent light, and at varying ISO settings.
