Runny Proboscis

Anyone know what's up with this? Common butterfly cold, or what? Another from The Florida Museum of Natural History...

Have'nt got a clue payn, not up on these little creatures, perhaps he has his dinner stuck to his face!? excellent closeup though.

Seriously, I have no clue either. Just guessing, it may have something to do with prep for egg laying. Interesting shot.

Nothing to do with cuckoos :)
It's a frothy protective covering secreted by some bugs while feeding on plants.
The butterfly probably wouldn't have been feeding on it/them but could just have walked into it and picked it up.
