    Re: resting time

la sal mountains in utah, between 9 and 10 thousand feet in elevation.

i asked my boss ( for whom i'm doing insect sorting but only to order) and he said he had seen them before but wasn't sure what species it was ( they send these kinds to specialists to classify to species.)

    Re: resting time

that looks like it to me, Good job Amber. the only thing that concerns me is in the 2nd like, it looks like it has orange under its neck ( doesn't look like it was the golden rod) heres another pic showing the back wing.

    Re: resting time

    Dylan,
I saw that orange too.. but couldn't tell from the angel of them in the first picture. In that pic.. its a little hard for me to tell to. On the pic in the link, the part that is orange looks like the moth is 'fuzzy' there and on your last pic it looks like either thats fuzzy on the moth or part of the flower. I cant tell.

    Dylan..

If you look at this page: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/gallery?f=32&_st=1 and scroll about half way down .. there are a series of different pictures of this moth and one of them looks very similar to your pics!
