    Redpolls
Got out for a couple of hours for a pleasant walk in the woods today. The best part of winter in the woods is seeing all the tracks in the snow from animals. It is surprising how many there are and yet you see so few of them. The tracks also help me learn where they move about, I'll have to invest in a blind one of these days and put that knowledge to use.

Got a couple of shots of male Redpolls...

Those are nice images of a cute-looking little bird.

However, I noticed something strange in camera-setting choice? 1/90 second @ F22 ISO 400. 750mm equivalent focal length at 1/90 second?!? That's pretty impressive, though I do wish you had opened up a ways more for greater sharpness and "smoother" background blur.

Still great images as is now, composition's good on both. :)

Still waiting for these to show up.... doubtful. Ah but I did see a small flock of white-winged crossbills yesterday.

We've had multiple reports of a single bird in my area - but I have yet to make it that site to try to photograph it. Big news for us here :)

    Pretty bird.

Alex, I think the strange settings were the result of playing with various modes while I was out. I believe this was shot in AV mode. I've been shooting in all manual lately but thought I'd play with other settings then got lazy and didn't pay attention with the result that most of what I shot that afternoon was not so good..to put it kindly.

    Back to manual. LOL!

Same happens to me at times... I leave a *tiny* setting set at something and pictures come out not too well. Usually it's wrong aperture/shutter speed, or some kind of hidden custom function; like for example one which causes the camera to churn up the ISO when I don't need that at all. I get no ISO readout in the VF or top LCD, so I don't know, unless I notice the faster shutter speeds.

Good luck with Manual, it is great to experiment and learn with! :)

Nice Photos Scott. This is a cool looking bird. I don't think I have ever seen one in Colorado but I'll start looking.
