    Short trip

Very short. Originally I planned to stay in Florida longer but spring break, lack of subjects (too early?), lack of accomodations available, and the tourists sent me home early. There was plenty of wildlife there, but I'm not into the swimwear/college girl thing. Even the "remote" areas and islands were covered. Anyway, I managed to take a few shots, nothing extraordinary, but I'll share anyway!

There's more, but I'll post them over the next few days or so.

And I know this isn't technically correct, but it is on purpose (the light was too harsh to be serious). Would like to know thoughts on it. Right now I have a love/hate relationship with it.

I really love the second one and the very last one. What do you not like about it? I think its awesome. The bird stands out so well against the black background. I like it a lot!

I think they are all beautiful images Payn. I LOVE the last image. It's not a typical bird photo, and I like that. It may not be technically correct, but I still think the image outstanding, and it makes me want to keep looking at it. The feather detail is great, and the contrast with the black BG really makes it pop. About the only thing I would like to see, is a bit more of the birds legs. I would be very proud to call any of these images my own.

Michael said it better than I could... I was thinking the same exact thing.

I can't wait to see more from your trip!

Agreed, I like the second post image. I would go even bolder by going even darker so that more of the bird blends into the darkness and the background goes completely black to eliminate the faint detail there.

    Re: Short trip

    Thanks alot everyone.

What I didn't like about the last photo is that it isn't typical, or technically correct. I've gotten into this thing lately where I trash TONS of photos because I think they won't sell, or win anything. It's a bad place to be, and I'm trying to break the habit. So, I hated that it wouldn't please editors and judges.

What I like is that it isn't typical. However, I feel that the darkness works with the feathers and the eyes well. It gives it a "wild" feel IMO. When I go back to work, we'll print it and see what it looks like (working in a lab is awesome!).

Thanks again, and I really appreciate the input on enhancements.

I can't speak for the rest of the folks, but I don't trash anything, unless it's completely unrecognizable. When you say "sell" do you mean as stock, or fine art or both? You would be surprised at what will sell as stock. I sold an image for a catolog cover that I didn't even think was worth printing as a 4x6. By not pressing the delete button, I was able to sell a single image for $200.

Just last week I had a perspective client ask me about some images that I took over a year ago. Again, these are images I never even bothered to print, or even do any post processing to. I'm still waiting to hear from them, but if it all works out, it will be more $, and great exposure, all because I didn't trash the photos.

I hope this doesn't come of as a lecture, because that's not my point. In fact, I'm not really sure what my point is, but I've typed too much to delete it all now.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be so quick with the delete button. Set the images aside for a while, and take a look at them sometime down the road. You may be very surprised at what you find.
