    Little Owl

On our camping break i noticed this Little Owl every afternoon from 3oclock onwards on this one tree just watching the comings and goings in the farm yard, it was a shame i couldnt get any closer but the young bullocks in the field where the tree stood in the middle of didnt give me much confidence to go in with them! so these were taken at quite a distance, the first image i had to use infill flash as it was about 7oclock.

    Canon 1D MKllN - 70-200L f2.8 IS USM - fill flash.

    Re: Little Owl

That's a very cool set of images of the little owl which are indeed LITTLE .

Big baldo, barred owls are found mostly in swampy tight forest areas and the burrowing owls are best found on marco island these days. I don't know were Geneva is, but corkscrew swamp in naples should have nesting barred owls.

Congrats on the find. I know you and many of us have been on the hunt for owls. How come this one isn't shot in the air

It s funny bacause the road across the street is called Owl Haven ct. I hear them often with their "Who cooks for you " call. I have seen two here but no camera.:mad2:

    Re: Little Owl

not trying to hijack your thread but....

To find those owls just get a general area the call is coming from and remember it. Go in that area during well lit hours and walk around staring at the ground. You will know when you find one of the roosts or the nest when you see a ton of whitewash(crap) and pellets. getting images of them is another story.... good luck.

    Re: Little Owl

Thanks Big Baldo, Loupey and Paulnj.

Yes he was getting mad and as Paulnj says they are little and very hard to find, we were lucky as the tree had'nt greened up too much but when we go back in May im sure we wont be able to see him at all.

Loupey i have the flying owl on my want list, but perhaps the Barn or Tawny Owl will be better for that as they are 3 times the size, so easier to see!
