Since land development is getting closer we are seeing more.
Black snake the other day in the field.
2 skinks in the back yard.
I'm not sure what was going on but notice one closed it's eyes.:blush2::blush2:

Today here's a king snake in the carport.
Both black and king seemed more aggressive than most encounters I've had in the past. But they finally went away from the house.

Hey Gotrocks, nice pictures especially the 2nd and 4th. I think you will find your skink had its eyes closed because it was basking in the sun. Also, as far as I know, both king and black snakes are non-venomous so when they are acting aggressive its just that, an act. We have several types of King snakes here in Brazil that are known as false coral snakes. They look very similar to the venomous, true coral snakes and they will also rear up as if to strike when cornered, as a sad consequence a lot get killed. Very few snakes are really dangerous, the vast majority try to avoid humans at all costs, even the highly venomous ones, either by camouflage or by taking off long before you get near to them. Personally I count it as a right result if I am able to see a snake and even more of one if I am able to photograph it. Basically Janet does not have anything to worry about with these two species.

these are good shots. id suggest having shot verticle to try to get the skins tails in the shots though. the snake shots could be improved by getting lower to the ground, im usually laying on my stomach when shooting snakes.... granted depending how aggressive they were, that could he hard/ risky. as well as shooting not mid day, on a sunny day, etc to get better light (which is really hard with reptiles since thats when they bask).

ive never seen a wild king snake though so thanks for sharing.

They are harmless and are actually good to have around. The snakes will keep rodents in check and both will eat larger insects .
