Okay, so I'd like to emphasize I had never seen a waxwing in my life up till a few years ago in Michigan. I've since seen them closer to home, in forest preserves in lake county and rarely in the ones by me in Chicago.
I've lived in my house since I was three years old. In 27 years I've never seen a waxwing in my neighborhood, much less in my yard!
So I was a bit floored when this fellow popped up while I was taking shots of the house sparrows that colonize our hedge. This is a Juvenile Cedar Waxwing, I believe.
