A few Muleys and K Fisher

It was 65 degrees in Denver after work Thursday. Had to jump on the Mtn Bike. Here’s a few snaps from the ride.

Thanks Eric and bwood for the kind words.

    bwood,
I purchased a lightly used nikon d80 from ebay to take mtn biking. P&S's were just not doing it for me.
I carry the d80 with a 70-300mm lens in a LowePro Off Trail 2 bag minus the removable lens bags
it's attached to the shoulder straps of a camelbak pack, so it rided at chest level. well protected with easy access.

No snow on the ground in Denver, however the mtns are still getting snow weekly.

Hi TF and Mike, thanks for the kind words.
I really like this wildlife forum. It is so neat seeing birds, ducks, and animal from all over the world as well as share the picts I take.
I've learned so much from this forum in the short time I have been here.

The Muley's are really cool. I must have ridden into their nursery. There were about 15 of these young ones.
I've seen an 8 point in this area but usually spook him before I can pull the camera out.

They let me hangout in there for 10 or so minutes.

and up on the ridge just before I left for the car..

Bob, that group silhouette shot is your award winner - crop it to only the three main deer in that shot and you have 3 very strong silhouettes all in strikingly different poses.

    Hi Paul Scott and Loupey,
I'm glad you liked the shots.
Loupey, Thanks for the tip. I will try that crop.

    Awwwwww!!!

So cute! How do they keep those big ears up? Must be some powerfull muscles.

I used to MTB a lot, but can't imagine how you can manage all that. I crash alot so I would never take the chance!

    Nice photo Mahopac,

Whitetails look a bit larger than muleys.
Have the deer in your area dropped their antlers yet?

We don't get to see many Whitetails in the Denver area.

Hi SARtech, Thank you for the comments.
When mtn biking with expensive gear one does ride a bit slower and with a little more caution.
However I would not be without mine when riding. Colorado mtn biking is too spectacular to rely on ones memory.

caeb7mm, Sorry to hear you broke your camera.
I'll bet you are glad now you didn't buy that 1000+ d90 for your biking adventures, haha.

    When researching dslr's I considered trail damage. Guess that's why I purchased a used d80 for 400.

For years I carried high end P&S's, in fact I still carry an Oly 10mp 1030SW around my neck on a lanyard everywhere I go. I just love the ease of the panarama shooting. However if wildlife at a distance is what you want to capture the dslr is the only way.

    Here are two examples:
Coyote ~100 yards away. Shot taken with my Oly 1030SW at max digi zoom, 10mp, jpeg fine. Yuck!
In fact, it was my disgust with this photo that made me look into dslr's

Coyote ~75 yards away. d80 70-300VR focal length 300mm (450) not perfect, I am still learning, that's why I joined this website.

Re: A few Muleys and K Fisher

I want to post one other photo to help make my point on exceeding the capabilities of the P&S camera I was using. Just before zoooming in on the young coyote in pict 1 I took a normal photo of the area.

Can you find the coyote in this picture?

I probably shouldn't have drank that Triple shot, double mocca Venta before surfing PR this morning.
