    Hummers Throw Down!

Hummers Throw Down! ("…to use the parlance of the times…" Maude Lebowski)

    Competition is getting pretty fierce.

Early light, no flash, so not much 'pop', but still relays the confrontational situation.

Male Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) flashes his gorget and flares his tail feathers in a challenge to the female Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus), who barely takes notice. He moved in, flashed her again, then a female Black-chinned grabbed her by the throat and pulled her off the feeder.

same at my place over the weekend.

male allen's tells a male ann's to move off the perch.

    the male ann's listens

a female allen's ignores the black chins posturing and pretends he isn't even there.

Hummingbird are EVIL , they chase anything away, even hawks and eagles! If they were the size of a hawk people would fear them like lions on the savannah

These are great! Do you shoot through glass? I seemingly can never keep the windows clean enough to get good shots. I've tried setting up with a long lens and waiting fwhen I know they'll be feeding, but with little luck. More Patience I guess..

Again, all these are great photos of the whole mating/territorial activities.
