Nature Strikes Back

This past week Indy has been hit by three major storms, one of which had some very strong straightline winds that sent Final Four fans scrambling just as the concert in the circle ended. As 40,000 people ran for cover the Regions Bank building was struck by these straightline winds. Somehow not one person was injured. TThe Indianapolis Star offices had damage as a steel beam fell from the bank building and went through the roof on the third floor. All three floors of the Star offices had water damage. Fortunately neither building had a lot of employees inside. One man who was working in his office in the bank building said it felt as if the building moved 4 or 5 feet. You can tell by the top photo that it did move. The street was littered with glass for two days as more kept falling. Streets were closed all week around the building and may be closed for a couple more weeks as cleanup and repairs occur.

Makes you wonder about being in one of these buildings during storms though! That was some powerfull wind

Wow! brill shots, but awful situation afterwards, so glad no one was hurt. The pictures being so sharp and clear show the devastation so thorough. Excellent.

Thank you Bevb and Knight. I actually took these after going to my bank yesterday as I sat in my van waiting to get back into traffic. They were shot with a Canon 28-300mm USM IS lens. It has been getting a workout lately as I used it last night to shoot a highschool play as well. Today I'm using it for a double header baseball game. I've been impressed with this lens though, while everyone else complains it's too heavy, doesn't feel right with the push pull zoom and it's a bellows allowing dust issues. I have seen none of those problems and really like how sharp it is.

Did you get to the Final Four? Thought of you all over there while glued to the TV with chips and salsa. Saw some of this on television, glad to see your take on the whole mess.

I used one of the 28-300's for a few days last summer. Made fine images, just never quite adapted to it. Didn't really seem that heavy and for the wider stuff I guess I'd rather change to a fixed focal or a wide/wide zoom.

No, I had a chance to shoot the final four but due to my surgery wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it that quick. As it turned out I could have but I didn't want to chance it so I told them to get someone else. He had a blast from what I heard. The funny thing, and he never figured it out but I had one of the security people harrass him every time he went in and out. He finally found out at the end when the security told him he and I set him up. I think I will have to watch my back from now on
