Awesome set of photos, Billy! Can you tell us more about the gear you used and how you got these photos? I know you don't just drive up, jump out of the car and get photos like this :)

I mainly used the 6D with the 800 mm lens, I had a hard time with the 70D the focus points were very erratic because of all the movement from tall grass and trees.

Most of the Grizzly shots were from a guided tour, which is just driving around looking for wild life but the guides know where and when to go to certain places. The Moose was right on the side of the road

Thanks for the picking my grizz pic as the feature photo, This HUGE bore grizzly was just inside yellowstones east gate, he was digging in a river bank about 50 yards away from the road way, I was there with 3 other photogs and he didn't pay any attention to us until the paparazzi's show up those are the one's that actually go after the bear with point and shoots. He got pissed and took off into the woods.

Thanks for the added info about how you got the photos. Maybe you can share the name / URL for the tour company, in case anyone else here is planning a trip to Yellowstone for wildlife photos.

Interesting about the auto focus performance of the 70D vs. the 6D. Can you tell me more? What auto focus mode were you using, how many / what size points, etc. I'd think the 70D would work better. But I haven't actually had a chance to use the 6D, yet. Maybe there's something I don't know.

I'm glad you saw that I picked the Grizz photo for a Featured Photo. I was psyched to get a big predator photo. I don't know if you saw it, but I sent you an e-mail asking if you'd mind if I shared your photo on our Facebook page. Is the e-mail address in your account here still good?

This is the tour group I used they are very good, a little on the expensive side but well worth it if you do not want to drive yellowstone, BrushBuck Guide Services - Jackson, WY

As far as the focus points go I usually use the center one, but with the 70D they re so sensitive they catch any movement. I have to work with it some more.

What e-mail did you send it to I have a few of them

How do I change mahopac to Billy320

Great pics, thanks for sharing! I love that grizzly one especially but they are all pretty nice. I'm too cheap to be a wildlife photog, those long lenses are so spendy! Heavy too.

The last one, the landscape is nice but the color seems a little weird. Too blue in the mist IMO but otherwise a super shot. Maybe the WB needs a little bump toward the warm side?
