My favorite part of the box turtle shot is that it is totally in situ. I didn't even bother to touch it at all, even after I was done shooting. didn't see any reason to.

In case you haven't had the opportunity to shoot a lot of reptiles, it is rare that they stick around long enough for a good shot, or are posed nicely enough to make the cut. Usually they require a bit of intervention.

really? most of my reptile shots are insitu.... turtle don't run away, lizards i can't catch, and snakes..... some i catch but most i don't.... cause then it pisses them off and you can't get close ups etc! my salamander shots however... i manipulate alot cause i need shots of toe pads, chins etc!

absolutely. probably 90% of the stuff I have found have been under cover - boards, logs, rocks, or tin. Once found, I usually pose them with the "hat trick." Put a hat on top of them and press down firmly (gently!!). Wait about five minutes, then get the camera ready. Have someone else nearby to wrangle. Lift the hat - chances are the snake will stay still, well posed, for half a minute or so - just long enough to squeeze off a dozen or two photos. seems to work for me.
