A common sight but always tough to time the shot just right when a woodpecker or hummingbird flicks its tongue.
This red-bellied woodpecker cooperated as it landed to within 20' of where I was sitting. The lighting was rather productive (although the OOF tree in the background wouldn't have been my first choice).
The cropped shot shows the barbs on the end of the tongue it uses to fish out insects from the trees.
