Miscellaneous Little Birdies
Some non-earth-shattering images I've been working on the last few days.
I know, more birds  Spring hasn't yet greened up the landscape. And once the warblers, kinglets, and vireos arrive - that's it - I'm out for good :p
Commoners:
#1) Eastern Bluebird (male)
#2) Red-winged blackbird (male)
#3) Red-winged blackbird (female)
#4) Sparrow (song?) - OK now who knows if it is male or female?
#5) Tree swallow (male I think)
Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
Good looking little guys. I keep hoping a bluebird will stop by here for a while.
"OK now who knows if it is male or female?" Did you get a shot from underneath?

Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
That's some serious bokah on 1 and 3. #5 is really a cool shot.
Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
These look more like shooting with super telephoto. Looking good !!
I think the sparrow is a female, and the tree swallow is a male. Female tree sparrow is not that blue, kind of brownish-gray.

Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
Excellent captures....really like the Red Winged Black Bird!!
Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
You lucky dog! I've been wanting to get a good photo of a blue bird for a long time. I need a lot of practice to get a swallow. Nice shots!
Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
That's a lovely series :) Hard to choose, but I think I like #4 the best...probably the setting that does it!

Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
Thanks, everyone, for looking.
A few more images of the same individual birds previously posted.
Still trying to get an in-flight of a bluebird but they seem to fly just long enough to leap down from a stalk/branch to catch a meal on the ground and then fly back up. By the time I locate them on the ground through the viewfinder, they are already back on the stalk/branch.
Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
That Bluebird has to be about the cutest bird ever!

Re: Miscellaneous Little Birdies
A few more from the last few days.
The weather has been the pits lately - blustery, cold, wet, and snowy. I wasn't going to post any more bluebird pictures but this male got blasted by a sudden burst which nearly knocked him over. One of those days when my protective lens hood comes off because it starts acting like a wind sock.
The cardinal shot was unique in that she let me get closer than any cardinal has ever allowed. There were two pairs hunkered down in two different trees trying to hide and keep an eye on a cooper hawk perched about 100' away. I went for the hawk first and it promptly flew off. But this female cardinal seemed content to just stay put even though the male bugged off when I got to about 25'. This shot was taken from about 17' away with my 500mm (uncropped). Although she appears to be barking at me, she was actually yawning as I caught her catching a couple 2-second naps. It took me about 10 minutes to get this close as I froze my a$$ off :p
