    Lockerly arboretum

Went to check this place out today, it is basically an old home with a huge garden, some formal, and some wooded areas. Walked around for about an hour and here's some of what we saw.

    Re: Lockerly arboretum

    Nice ones, Payn!

I really like the angle on #2. I bet you were really on your toes to get this high up, eh? If not, I would have suggested it just a tad more straight on to get the broken stalk end away from his face. Although it is cool how it looks like he's eyeing it.

I also like #3 for the shadows cast on the moth's wing. Very cool. Perhaps darken this shot more to bring down the highlights and darken the shadows?

The last one is (you knew I was going to say it ) very sharp!

Used tubes on all these I assume? (except for that one hairy thing )

Yeah, definately on my toes, being around 5'4 sucks. I got some different angles and other stuff, but didn't want to post too many. The setups were varied. Some were with tubes and 70-210, some just the 70-210, and some the kit lens and tubes. For the moth I just got on the ground and shot from below the flower head with the 70-210. I tried to draken the shadows, but not sure if it's what you meant. The server keeps resetting, I'll try to post it later.

Very nice images Payn! I'm determined to have a set of tubes by next spring. I would like to see the deer as a veriticle, w/out the legs cut off, but it's still pretty nice the way it is.

    Re: Lockerly arboretum

    ok, since you asked.

I'm horrible with post processing, and typically just resize and crop, so that sulphur butterfly probably isn't going to get much better... owell.

mjs, It has an ugly chain across the bottom, so I cropped it. The chain was just a barrier for cars. However, I included another photo which shows more of the deer. I got another with it that shows the whole thing, but it's walking across a gravel road (yawn).

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

P.S. Loupey, just because of that height comment I'm gonna start wearing platforms on my outings. So if you're watching news and they say something about a little man in platforms slipping down a mountain, that's me...lol

LOL, LOL, LOL - That about completes my visual along with your earlier comment about you screaming when you shoot a spider, stopping just long enough to shoot it, then screaming away.

Thanks for the welcomed diversion to my day
