I have started to organize my collection of photos trying to ID every thing and having some trouble with a few birds and hoped some of you will know for sure. Photos are resized and compressed to get them much smaller in size but if the higher res photo is needed to help ID just let me know.

All photos were taken in London, Ontario.

    #1 - ?

    #2 - great egret?

    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5...dstoID7.th.jpg

#3 - pretty sure its a Steinbacher at the front drinking, not so sure about the white goose, better shot of him in the 2nd photo. And The other sitting next to him believe to be a Chinese goose.

    #5 - ?

    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...dstoID5.th.jpg

#6 - Coopers Hawk ?, it was a distant shot he took off soon as he spotted me creeping closer so never did get a great look at him, after reviewing the photo believe it may be the coopers hawk.

    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5...stoID10.th.jpg

    #7 - Cat Bird ?

    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5...dstoID4.th.jpg

#8 - Little Blue Heron ? - rare for the area I know, some bird watchers were keeping an eye on one for a few days, unfortunately I didn't see it then but got that photo the following day and believe it to be him?

    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9...dstoID8.th.jpg

#9 - larger then a mallard, perhaps the male of #4?
    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...dstoID2.th.jpg

Thanks, and sorry for some shots poor quality. still fairy new to photography and most of those are earlier shots taken on my first camera Kodak C330. and best available for those subjects.

many thanks Paul & Lava Lamp. Its nice to finally know what those are. I have seen several double crested cormorant around here but that one looked fair bit different, perhaps a youngster photo was taken last year May 03.

hard to tell on that hawk but sharp would have been my 2nd guess as well, coopers are more common here though so more then likely. But either way was nice to see, last summer I could only hear them they were never visible unless in distant flight.

Hey Paulnj, when I first saw Karens image I looked for widgeon's under ducks in my Sibley guide to make sure that is what her duck was (I still wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything). Do you know why they have widgeon's listed separately from the other ducks?

BTW, I saw my first rough-legged hawk today... YIPPEE!!! :D It was a real dark morph too! The bird was too far away to get a good shot, but I got plenty of bad ones

My sibley has them on page 85 after mallard group ad before "blue winged ducks"

I have very few roughies , but do have a dark morph full frame on slide(somewhere) that is amazingly sharp and the angle rocks :) buteo lagapus is not an easy bird to find this winter in my area atleast.

Can anyone help with this woodpecker?

I was thinking flicker or possibly RB, but the small orange patch at the top/base of the beak is screwing me up...

    http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...woodpecker.jpg

It stopped by my feeder here in SW Ontario for a minute or so this AM, haven't seen it before or since.

    Thanks,

    Randy.

(PS: Sorry for the crappy 'through the window' pic...it's still pretty cold outside) :mad2:

    Here's a tough one.

Not much to work with, but the silhouette wasn't too bad. Definately BIG, saw it flying over Chicago in a slow zigzag pattern in january. This was the only shot I got of it, I wasn't fast enough getting the camera out of the bag! I know there are cooper's hawks and peregrines here, possibly others. I was wondering if the species is determinable by flight silhouette?
