did not climb up a water spout. Tried to tear heads off flies instead - no need for nursery rhymes out in nature

Got these during a party my wife's aunt hosted for my wife's 90 year-old grandmother. Being out in the country, imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered that I had accidentally brought my 300mm

Not the best but I love those false eyes on the butterfly - false highlights and all.

False eyes must really help them to survive, Love the Jumping Spider we can count our selfs lucky that these guys are not the size of Jack Rabbits, they are quite aggressive when cornered. Next time Loupey just run your finger in front of it it will take a defensive stance right away lol

Hold, on how big is that spider in real life? - you sure you didn't have tubes on as well?

Knight - I'd be leary if they were even the size of mice. Tough little guys! Like you say, it was easy to get him to look at me as he would stare me down no matter what angle I was shooting from.

big baldo - yeah, I looked in my bag and, shazam - the 300mm was still attached to the 30D Guess I was planning a group family shot at 40 yards. But, in my defense, I did find my 28mm and 50mm deep down in there as well!

Roger - LOL! You got me - I found a set of tubes in there as well This spider is about the size of a pinky fingernail. So I did use 1, 2, and 3 tubes on it (don't remember which combo for this shot). The boy scout in me had me prepared I suppose.

Most of the best spider photos I have seen have been of jumping spiders, and this one is no exception!

Thanks, bleidner, for the comment. This one was flashing his green mandibles at me so it was quite quite photogenic.

Both shots are outstanding. I especially like the jumping spider and I've never seen one with those colorations. They tend to be grey and black here in New England

RobMac - thanks for looking. Yeah, when I spotted this guy earlier in the day when the lighting was more overhead, it definitely looked mostly black with light spots. I thought it was a little bird dingleberry at first.

But those green mandibles where what kept me coming back throughout the day. He seemed to be able to flash them (like how a hummingbird can flash his iridescent feathers and how certain fish can appear to change colors by it's scale orientation).

Wonders can come from anywhere, anytime.

The spider is great, a more aggressive predator that doesn't need webs. Stills ought to have background music, which is easier with video. If there is anything besides "Boris the Spider" by the Who, I am unaware of it.
