Very nice shots. Great colors throughout. I particularly like the shots that show that incredible hinged jaw. Such voracious, vicious eaters. Nice macro work!

Susaan-It seems to depend on the species (returning to the same perch), This past shooting trip I did notice individuals returning to the same leaf or stalk after my initial approach frightened them off. Learning the behavioral patterns of these little guys is key to gaining access into their world. I think it's all about properly immersing yourself into their enviornment.

Topcat-I agree, they really do appear to have cartoon like expressions, smiles, sidelong glances ect....Such a terrific and fun subject to photograph.

These were all shot with a SONY Alpha 100, a TAMRON Macro (90mm) and a SONY Alpha zoom lens (dont remember the specs) and a cheapo monopod. The monopod was actually a really nice investment, it allowed me to sit in a still position, locked into the face of one of these bugs with the long lens, then, I could comfortably wait for the critter to make a "face" or expression and click the shutter to my hearts content.
