    hummers of the season

    hummers of the season

the rufus have moved on up north for the summer but i did get some pretty nice shots while they were in town. we'll see them again in a few months on their way back down. we will also be sing the allen's as they take this route during the fall.

the blackchin have just started showing up so its a case of one breed leaves and others take their place.

i 've got some decent bc female shots but with the male it is hard to get his gorget(throat) color to show as the light has to be just right. but he is next on my list.;) ;)

    for your enjoyment!

Great job with those, Terry. As fast as those little birds move and you got the image centered and tack sharp. Nicely done.

The pictures of your hummingbirds always amaze me Terry, the colours, and especially the inflight shots are something short of breathtaking, especially from someone who only sees these birds in specialist books. Thanks for sharing these.

    My turn!

Great shots! Here is my contribution to the post. I have just invested in a feeder as of late. I want to get a good shot of one flying but so far this is the best i've got.

thanx for the kind words, louis, bev, knight, costalflyer and cgarrard.

always nice tro get comps for such a talented bunch of folks.

    cgarrard.

if you want hummers you need to have a minimum of 5 feeders but the more the better.

hummers are aggreassive and one dominant one will run all the others off. get enough feeders and spread them out so that they can't guard them all. ;)

1 cup palin white sugar to 4 cups water.

where you live their are at least 13 species coming through every year.

i'll be looking for more of your hummer shots!

    Re: hummers of the season

    Terryger,

Awesome advice, thank you so much. Yes, we have one nesting on our patio (our second nesting couple this year) and she is running the others off already. I will take your advice and get at least a couple more, one for the front yard and another for the back yard. I want to get some feeders that dont have the footrest so I can get clear shots of them without other stuff in the way. I will be investing in a new Telephoto lens soon (a Tamron 200-500), so that I can get a bit closer without being closer .

    cgarrard,

by all means get the ones with the footrests. it will make them relax and stay around longer.
