hoverflies from today.

went out to find hoverflies in flowers today. Next week's project is hoverflies in flight.

This is my first time using the embedded gallery here, I've been hosting remotely for the last year - I'm considering allowing my website to expire since I don't use it for anything besides photos. Actually, I'm not - I just can't seem to get my FTP to work properly tonight and I thought I'd contribute to the community here a bit more. In any case, please enjoy!

god you are the master of that camera,if i could take shots like that with my h5,i would be a happier man, until then i bow my head to your great captures,maybe you could move up here in the north country?

I have a really close friend in Medicine Hat who I keep meaning to go visit, but other than that I try to stay as far south as possible - I even suffer through Chicago wintertime as soon as it drops below 60f! 75-90f is perfect!

I'm glad that you like my photos, but honestly I feel like I am just scratching the surface with this camera and photography in general. I've been pretty happy with just getting a well composed, in focus and well exposed shot, sort of like the "voucher" shot I posted above - and while getting a high percentage of those correct IS an accomplishment, I'm only just beginning to see the light (thanks Lou) and to understand how photography is dependant upon it for more than just exposure. Getting the exposure right is only just the beginning!

In case you haven't read this, here's a good link for you - but take it with a grain of salt, what works for him may not be the best thing for you. I regularly change my settings depending on what I am shooting and how I want the shot to look.


White Paper for the H5

Erik, these are all stunning. The first one is spectacular.

Considering the small size of your subject, such nicely rendered images would be an accomplishment by any camera. Keep up the excellent work. Looking forward to seeing your next weeks' project.

hi erik actually i have all of his white pages down loaded to my pda,very helpful in deed,wondering do you have a flash filter diffusser attached to your camera,if so is it home made,could you give me a link so i could make one specifically for the h5?.

here's a couple of different diffusers. Both work well for macros, although I've taken to the squeeze bottle design because it stays put a little better. The other panel type diffuser is made from a gallon milk jug, the ring in the center is a perfect fit on the H5's lens adaptor ring. The nice thing about these diffusers is that they will both eliminate the shadow cast by the flash hitting the lens barrel.
