looks like a leopard or pickeral. kidna hard to tell w/o knowing whats local and being able to see it better.

but the photo is really nice, i like the environment and how he is actually hidden in the grasses.

Definately a pickeral frog, Rana Palustris (actually the genus has changed but i have no idea what it is these days). The double row of square dorsal spots is a dead giveaway. I LOVE the en situ photos, i think that many reptile and amphibian photographers (myself included) do too much posing of animals for "voucher" photos. Here is a voucher shot of a leopard frog for comparison. I hope that people aren't getting offended by my "here's a shot for comparison" posts - I just think it is a valuable tool for learning to differentiate between similar species.

sure its easy to tell those two photos apart, but alot you findin the field are in the middle of the two, depending on the region at least.

but yeah i shoulf have known, i just haven't had to work with them all summer and learned all new species :-)

Great pictures! We have built a natural pond hoping to attract frogs and toads but to no avail yet, i know we dont get such a beautiful variety over here but these guys have always fascinated me.

What lenses did you use for these shots?

Bevb, I'm using a Kodak Z740 so I cannot change lenses Your pictures are always inspiring and your discussion about which camera to buy was very helpful (I'm looking for a new camera).

Here are the details from the picture:

    Shutter 1/250 sec
    Aperture f3.20
    Focal length 21.20 mm
    ISO speed 80

Dylan8i and Sushigaijin, thanks for the comments. Sushigaijin, the comparison picture is very helpful.

Yes, the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II I think I will buy the 30D and invest in a few quality lenses, or If I can talk myself into it... maybe the 5D

Thank you for your kind words
