Has this ever happened to you??

So... you come home after a day of shooting "not much" due to lousy weather (raining cats and dogs in my case) or just no subjects worth shooting. You upload your measly quantity, take a quick look, and see ya got nothin'. A day later you decide to take a second look. I thought I'd look again at the shot I took of a lone Mallard in the swampy lake on the property. Almost jumped out of my chair when I looked closer... WHOA! There's a Beaver in the shot too! LOL
So, have you ever been surprised by something in your shot that you were not expecting?

    Kristine

lol... Kristine, I must confess that I looked at the photo first, before reading your paragraph.. and all I saw was the duck.. didnt see the beaver until I read the paragraph and looked again.. haha.. great photo!

btw.. what do you mean lousy weather? I think rain/overcast days are wonderful for photographing flowers, streams, or anything that doesn't include the sky.. those clouds are a great diffuser of the sun's harsh light.

Glad I wasn't the only one!
By lousy weather I meant pouring buckets and windy. There were only a few brief respits to get out of the truck and walk down along the pipes to get to the marsh lake.
btw... this was the first time I photographed a Beaver... knowingly or otherwise

Sometimes the best shots are the "accidents". One of my best selling images is of a butterfly that was on a flower, and as if flew off I was still shooting the sequence. When I first saw the image of it flying off, I almost deleted it because it was partially blurry due to the butterfly moving out of the DOF. My wife absolutely loved the effect, and convinced me to keep it. the rest is history....it's one of my best selling images of all time.

Happens all the time. Anyone who claims they carefully set up every shot (espcially nature photogs and sports shooters I would imagine) is full of male bovine fecal matter. Fortunately, one must be out more to get luckier. A nice compromise I think

Besides, I think you were really shooting the beaver and accidentally got the duck.

    "male bovine fecal matter".......
I still can't believe I didn't see him! That swampy pond is usually good for something. There is a giant gray/blue herin that likes to hang out there also. You have to really creep up slow and low though to catch him. NOW, I will be on the lookout for the beaver too. Remember the coyote shot? I got that too here. he was trotting across on the other side of the pond. Now that George and family are probably gone (*snif*) I should spend more time checking out this area!
