I have no idea what these are. They are living in my yard. I say woodchuck, hubby says groundhog, we are probably both wrong lol.

Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
Yarrow, how big are they? They look a lot like what we call Richardson ground squirrels or gophers, they also look a lot like groundhogs = woodchuck (?). Gophers are native to the prairies of southern Canada and parts of the northern US prairies, groundhogs are much more widely dispersed (see links). Regardless of what they are, if they are in your garden, you may want to trap them because they multiply faster than rabbits and can be very destructive in gardens.
I see you are from Maine (?), so they are probably groundhogs. HTH :D

Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
Thanks WesternGuy.
Im actually in Mass., but close enough lol.
There is a bigger one so I think these 2 are the babies. The bigger one is about the size of say Pug maybe a bit bigger, definatly fatter.
These 2 are about the length of a chuahua but fatter.
I havent caught then im ny flower garden yet , but there has been some suspicious little hole all around in there that Im thinking are the Toads or Chipmunks. There is a chipmunk den in my yard also lol.

I could be wrong, but I think groundhogs and woodchucks are the same thing...these look like them to me!
That's a cute little chipmunk too...:)

Yep, they are one and the same. I agree. The chipmunk is awful cute.
Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
they are woodhogs
Yup groundhog and woodchuck is the same thing.
Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
So we were both right then LOL. Thats a first.
Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
I agree with WesternGuy about considering having the groundhogs relocated. They get brave and dig large dens right up to buildings. We had a few at work - at first everyone thought they were cute - until we had 4 large den holes along the offices and warehouse. Rumor has it that, after we moved out of that building, the new owner's heavy forklift broke through the concrete floor because of the all the excavating.
Chances are you don't have a forklift in your basement :p But not good for the foundation anyway. Keep an eye out under your deck, around the shed, etc. Hard to miss the giant holes they make.
Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
Yarrow, sounds like they are definitely groundhogs, particularly if the adult is the size of a pug (yikes)
Ma. = Mass., well us Canucks don't keep up on all the abbreviations for the states, sorry about that. :blush2: What is the one for Maine anyway, so I will know next time. :D
Good luck with these critters.
WesternGuy
P.S. I really like the chipmunk!!

Goodness Loupey!
I did find a hole next to my flower garden. I just thought it was the Chipmunk since there seams to be a coloney taking over our yard.
I will have to keep a closer eye on them.
Re: Groundhog? or Woodchuck? ..and a Chipmunk
A groundhog hole is big enough to fit your foot in :) The will devour your garden in days too.
I suggest getting them out of there by any means possible
