Sorry Bev, but I find the blurring to be over done and disracting .

    That's just my humble opinion

    Hi Paulnj,
and without others opinions we would'nt better ourselves, fully understood, and in a way i agree, i prefer my flight shots showing very little wing movement but thought them worth a posting.
Glad to have you back! it sounds like you really did reach the bottom, well theres only one way to go now......... UP! and im sure you will.

Not being contrary for the sake of it - honest - I like the wings in the second one.
But I'd like it to have the tail and feet of the first.

Yeah, fussy I know, but my ideal for this shot would be sharp body (check) charp feet (oops) and only one tail, if blurred, prefeably a bit sharper - like the first one.

OH, I definately got as low as I could handle and to be honest, I am happier now than IO have been in a long time. Once I get on proper meds( if I do indeed need them) , I can only get happier.

    Re: Goldfinch frenzy

I rather like the 2nd image! Very different, attention-grabbing.

Did you use the fill-flash technique? I suspect that the preflash, then the main flash is what caused the 2 sharp images per frame.

How about this, can you leave the camera stationary and shoot a long exposure (1/15 to 1/30) of an incoming bird. Then use a flash set to fire during the rear curtain. Then you would have a long flapping blur trail with a sharp bird at the front of the blur. Would take some tries to get right. But if anyone can do it, it would be you.

    Re: Goldfinch frenzy

    Bev,

Hope this doesn't ruin what little reputation I may have, but I like the blurring effect; it shows motion that the eye does not when observing these creatures. Does it make for ideal photography, I guess not. The tail could be sharper but if the tail were sharper would the wings have the same movement? I don't know, but it sure is fun to see it.

    Thanks for sharing.
