    Painted Bunting & Cardinal stare down..

    Female Cardinal and Male Bunting at the feeder....these 2 grilled each other up for 5 minutes!
    Photos taken late day....

    Eric, great images, thanks for sharing. So was this a standoff, or did they agree to disagree and part company.

    It is always interesting to watch two species of the same type of "animal" encounter each other. I often see this in our area with "encounters" between magpies and crows, particularly in the summer. This is very rare and the magpies often will gang up on the crow to chase it away, or the crow decides that discretion is the better part of valour. Trying to take pictures of any of these encounters is next to impossible, because as soon as the magpie lookout spots any one, they all head for quieter places.
