    Burrowing Owls.

Another species that is close to endangered. They have made something of a comeback over the past year, but the hurricanes of the the two years prior really took a toll on them. They are on the "Species of Concern" list. Original sizes below each, and worth a look for the significant detail.

The light was rough on this one of these juvi's, but I couldn't pass up the pose

I LOVE that tilt of the head of the middle owl in the 2nd shot!

    Awesome detail.

That "looking to the sky" image is a great image. It's a very typical pose to see.

Where did you shoot these, because all the burrowing owls I found on Cape Coral vanished(as you say) after the hurricanes a few years ago. I had so many nests in a 10 block area they were like shooting ducks at the zoo

These were shot in Cape Coral. I'm happy to report a VERY strong comeback after a non-existent hurricane season last year. I know of many active burrows now. More popping up all the time. They've even moved off the cape to some of the larger barrier islands.

Great shots! The pose on that second shot more than makes up for any shortcomings with the lighting...LOL That shot is priceless!
