    The Usual Suspects

More from the blind by the feeders this morning. The snow was coming down pretty good, but I stayed warm and dry in the blind with the heater. The light was nonexistent so I pulled out my flash. Boy I wish I knew how to use that thing.

    Re: The Usual Suspects

That second shot really turned out great. You must have been using a tripod, considering the slow shutter speeds. I'm just surprised that the squirrel doesn't have a catchlight, considering you used the flash.

    Re: The Usual Suspects

Thanks for looking Mike. Yes, a tripod is a necessity with my current lens/camera combo. ISO 400 is the max I will use, and that is only as a last resort. The lens has to be stopped down to at least f/9 to get fairly sharp images. Throw in the poor lighting and you end up with next to nothing for a shutter speed.

For the 2nd image, I knew the finches liked to land on that branch, so I prefocused on it and waited. I used a cable release to fire the shutter when something landed on the branch.

The squirrel does have a very tiny spec of catchlight, but it's not very noticeable.

Nice captures and a nice presentation too.

The Squirrel picture makes me cold just looking at it.
