Finally, a flicker!

I've gotten images of them before, but they were always very far away. I'm not crazy about the background... but at least he was close :D A northern flicker....

Great detail the snow on the tree is a very nice touch.

Knight, I agree that they need to be lightened, I was worried about blowing-out the snow... I need to learn how to mask better.

Loupey, these woodpeckers spend most of their time on the ground looking for ants. I guess I was lucky to catch one in a tree.

Bsquared, it felt like spring for about 2 minutes last week... we're supposed to get snow until Tuesday.

Great shots Copy. I especially like the first one with the snow. We still have winter here in the great white west, but It is supposed to disappear starting on Sunday/Monday with highs of 10-14 C (approx. 50 to 60 F ?) Hopefully, our migratory birds will start to return soon. We have robins that come back every year and I am looking forward to their return.

i see them every so often in my yard. when i first saw them, i didnt know what they were,just that they were different from any bird i had ever seen.did a lot of web searching to figure out what they were. and they are indeed skittish. if they see you they will fly away!! my only hope is to try and take a picture of them thru a wingow if i see them this year!

I think I just caught images of a flicker in my back yard about 10 min ago. Not sure if it was but I will post the best shots in teh ID thread for Paul to confirm or deny for me lol. Having never seen one before until your shots CK I had no idea what I was looking at.

Porterm, I would say that 50% of my bird images are taken from an open window, 30% from my backyard deck, and about 20% from other locations. A window makes for an awesome blind! :D I need to get out more (lol).
