Feral Goat

Yesterday I was working in a pine plantation, I spotted and stalked this nanny on a grassy ridge a way off the road. To keep the numbers in check, the goats here are culled on a regular basis and have become wary as local deer population.

That's cool, hminx! There are feral pigs in California, where I used to live. People hunt them and the meat is popular for sausage. Are the feral goats hunted the same way?

What lens did you use for this photo and how far away were you when you took the picture? Also, what kind of terrain? Were you in the mountains? If so, what kind of altitude? I'm curious about where a feral goat likes to live.

The area at about 800mtrs ASL, and it has goats, pigs, and deer running about the place. Its a pine plantation that harvested and resown on about a 30 year rotation and the owners don't appreciate the damage these characters do to the young pines, so their numbers are kept in check with a regular culling program. This tends to make them rather wary of humans and understandably difficult to approach. I've included some shots of the area including a recently harvested scene which will be replanted in due course. This happens fairly quickly to prevent any major soil erosion

The goat shots were taken at about 20 metres from memory with my D7000 and Tamron 70-300vc @ 300mm
