    Female Hummingbird
    It appears that all the males have left, but we still have a few females left. I caught this one yesterday afternoon. I thought the floating blossom was interesting.

    Nice capture. Looks like you stopped the wings with the flash. How much flash (enough to make the background black)? How far away? Is the flower a mandevilla? That's what I have been using. - Terry

    Two Canon 580's at 1/16 power approximately 16 inches away from subject. Using a Canon 500mm f/4 shut down approximately 5 stops under ambiant, in this case it was f8 as it was getting dark and ambiant was gone.

    The blossum was a petunia, which they are not crazy about (unless it is attached to a tube with food in it).

    That's been my strategy also. I found the best way to get the -5 exposure was to use a variable neutral density filter (though not in this case if it's too dark). That way I can have all my other settings (ISO, aperture) as I want rather than as the exposure dictates. - Terry

    Looks a bit over flashed, but still a very nice image.
