    Eufala Skipper
CJ's Desert Dweller's : Eufala Skipper Lerodea eufala feeding from a blooming Mealy Cup Sage Salvia farinacea

Everything is just starting to kick into fall bloom. There are different 'Skippers' all around the grounds. Skippers are so named for their rapid, skipping flight. With their stout, hairy bodies and triangular wings, they resemble, proportionally, moths more than 'true' butterflies. I think the long curved proboscis coming out of the forehead, right into the little 'pot o' nectar' is cool!

Actual size on this one is just about .875 of an inch.

Well done. I agree that the shape/position of the proboscis makes the shot.

    Nice job paralleling the subject.

    Thanks!

Yes, without the proboscis in the shot it would be 'just another bug' picture.I took several of this guy, all of equal clarity/composition, etc. This was the only one that 'popped'.
