Now that is an early hermit thrush!!! I had one two years ago at Forcythe in early feb! I had to argue with my fiends that I really seen it. After 5 minutes we gave up and low and behold OUT IT CAME as we drove by ;)

    Beautiful pelicans. Nicely done....

Quick question, are the different color heads different genders or different species? Sorry for such a ignorant question.

Thank you for the kind comments but I'm afraid we both will need to hope that paul can answer your question. I thought I heard the the males had brown necks but I'm not sure.

I'm not Paul, but I'll fill in while he works on his bathroom. The top one is northern mockingbird (the state bird of Florida) and the one is a red-winged blackbird.

    Re: Need an ID Bad...

Actually, if you were to ever see a purdue bird, you wouldn't eat chicken ever again! They are bred featherless an huge chested . That' isn't so bad for human females, but freaky looking in chickens !

As for the pelican plumages from above......

The dull brown ones are young pelicans, the ones with white necks are adult nonbreeding plumage and the reddish necked ones are adult BREEDING plumage. The male and female look alike and right now is the time they change into breeding plumage. Some are nearly there, while others are still in winter(non breeding) plumage.

Here's a bird I got today, these are one of my favorite birds. I think it would make a perfect cartoon character.

    Re: Bird ID part V

While I agree that waxwings are nice looking birds, you obviously haven't seen a tennesee warbler, bluewinged/golden winged, canada, blackburnian....... up close and personal ;) Those in spring migration are AMAZING looking.

My favorite birds to find are obviously warblers, but the tanagers, flycatchers, horned larks and winter finches are right up there !

Nice shot Mike and I like the BG too!

    Re: Bird ID part V

Mike.... Tennesee warblers are rare breeders in NJ, but once I find one in your area... I will get you on it ;) Golden winged and bluewinged can be found in stokes in a few area and a park in your area too ;) Blackburnian is a very hard one to get close too.... sorry but they like to be 80 feet up a conifer

I will make a point to email you about good finds(territorial birds) in your area as I find them or here about them.

Oh wait..... try furnace lake in oxford around mid to late may ;) the drive in has tons of bird life and the parking lot and area right of the boat launch usually has orchard oriole, bluewinged warblers, migrating tennessee sometimes, and even a good chance at a migrating wilson's warbler Canada warblers like woods and are on the drive in ;)
