    Smile Little backyard fella

Nothing "exotic"... but at this time of year this is about all we get.

I actually lay down on my belly to take this shot. Don't ask how much *fun* it is to be lying down on wet, icy, cold and three-foot deep snow that isn't very solid... The song sparrow was perched on a low scrubby bush near a birdseed station which I had placed several days before.

    Attachment 62556

Heavy post-processing applied, since I somewhat "missed" :blush2: the MF and also had to shoot at ISO 1600 in order to get a fast enough shutter-speed to avoid camera-shake.

Thanks for looking, comments/suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Yes they do!

Especially when they associate you as being closely related to food suddenly appearing every morning in the same spot.

Alex, you haven't done badly at all - so it's not razor sharp but it's really nice colours and composition, nice pose from your new friend. Personally I'd have liked to see a little more room above the head but that's probably just me

LOL I'm so glad to hear you practice what your preach and got down on your belly

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, Mette. I know this photo isn't razor-sharp, but any more editing and it would have looked fake. Neccesary NR, shooting at the lens's max aperture, and handholding at a dangerously low shutter-speed must have had taken a toll too.

I never mean to preach... :nonod: ... all I try to do is help out. And make my posts the most informative possible, not just stuff like "Awesome", "Nice work", "Very nice", etc..

Alex, I know that! And you are doing an awesome job of helping out I'm just jealous because I'm having a hard time at the moment going on my belly - and we don't even have snow right now, just loads of mud (: But I do have constant dirty knees on my jeans

I went out today to "catch" some birds - even at largest aperture (f5.6), 1/125s AND a flash gun, I don't really get enough light, so I'm even more impressed now with your song sparrow Argh, I just remembered (writing this), I'd fixed ISO to 200 a couple of days ago and forgot to change it :mad2: . Even so...

Nice looking little guy. The angle was worth it (easy for me to say).

I'm still working on my tweety bird BIF. They are tough. They flap, flutter and dart so fast I need 1/800 plus shutter speeds. So where do I get enough light to get enough depth of field to get one in focus? Ideas keep popping up, but they all take time (and hundreds of clicks).

    Thanks OldClicker.

You did a pretty good job on the cardinal BIF from a while back, looking forward to seeing more.

Another one of my (fat ) little friend, shot about 2 hours ago in approximately the same location.

By now he/she is not scared of me at all, and stayed quietly perched for a long time while I stumbled around in deep snow and frantically focused my lens. Sparrow just looked on, looking perhaps a bit amused...? :blush2:

1/400 second, instead of 1/200 second for the first. No lying down in the snow this time, only crouching.
