Harrier's anyone??

I caught these guys/gals this afternoon near my home in SW Ontario.

The one on the ground was eating a mouse/vole/something when the 2nd one came in and bullied him/her out of the way. I was shooting the first one when the 2nd one came in....what luck!

Thanks all! I was really enjoying the opportunity to shoot the one eating (from the comfort of my truck I might add!) when the 2nd one came in to bully the 1st on off her meal. I thankfully had the presence of mind to hold the shutter button down during the entire altercation.

Thanks for the gender clarification Paul. Any quick way to determine gender on harriers?

males are grey and juveniles have a clear tan chest usually and look very much like the female to the untrained eye.

unfortunately, the snow is an all-too-common 'icing' around my neck of the woods at this time of year.

-16C and VERY windy today...going out looking for that kestrel was out of the question today...with the Superbowl tomorrow, it's looking like next week sometime.

How cool to be able to get so close to these birds. Down here in Texas it is extremely difficult to get near them. Great shots.

I'd suggest waiting until the arctic air is gone though...-18C is not my idea of fun...
