Bird on a wire

A few days ago I had a look at Loupey's website and I completely fell in love with one photo on the front page, a bunch of birds on a wire with a very funny twist - go take a look! I've just started practicing my bird photography in the last couple of weeks (yes please bear with me on the poor quality of my photos and my lack of exotic species - not many of those around in my local park!), so I thought "Hey, there's an idea..." :idea:

It was first yesterday on my way home from the botanical gardens at one of the most busy traffic junctions in Copenhagen at rush hour that I saw my first "Bird on a wire" with a camera in hand. And it was just the one bird...(Corvus cornix?)...and wires ain't what they used to be! But I thought to myself, there must be a lot of you guys out there with "Bird on a wire" photos - POST THEM! Here´s the first one of my two shots, it won't be hard to better But I am keeping my eyes peeled for birds on wires...

Oh, forgot to say that it was taken with a Minolta 500mm mirror lens

Do you have any photos with lots of birds on a wire? yeah, you must have....

Is there some sort of superstition thing about birds on a wire?

It's a American Kestrel and i dont think i have any with lots of birds sorry. As for superstitions lol i dont have any hehe.

I'm happy to hear that my image "inspired" you, Mette - that is the highest honor for any photographer.

The image to which you refer is indeed a popular one. One of my best sellers and I can always count on a copy selling wherever I take it. To me, it is ironic that it does as well as it does for three main reasons: 1) it was shot while standing at the loading dock of my company (location not exotic), 2) it is of ordinary black-birds (subject not exotic), and 3) my wife has never seen any reason why anyone would like it let alone buy it.

I especially like reason #3


Anyway, here are two taken around the same time - wide shots. I had a fascination and obsession for about 2 or 3 nights in a row (these were posted before). Again, taken around my place of business - about the only wildlife in that area.

I guess the top one is called "The odd one out! The bottom one is rather interesting too - the top line birds all being on "the straight and narrow" and the bottom line birds being the free spirits (guess it might be related to the fact that the bottom one is a double wire), sitting much more at random....

In my humble opinion, there is no need for neither an exotic subject nor location for a brilliant photograph, in fact I would think it's mark of a great photographer that he/she is NOT dependant upon these, just skill and imagination ie "a good eye"

Brilliant I can really understand how you had a fascination with this - even if it isn't "classical" wildlife photography. Not quite sure how you classify them??!!

I'm a little surprised that there aren't any more birds on wires photos out there?

Anyway, yours are gorgeous and I shall ceratinly think of you on Friday when I'm going to hear Leonard Cohen live here in Copenhagen and he no doubt sings "Bird on a wire"

I went out there today looking at wires, but the birds around here just don't seem to like them Or maybe they are just too busy to hang around on a wire...Like getting ready to fly south to hotter climates...Well, I shall keep looking...In the meanwhile, here's my one other lousy one bird....and in my dreams I shall see lots of wires like Loupey's...

I forgot about this shot. A barn swallow shot in a, well, a barn (actually a shelter ).

Lighting was Horrendous (with a capital "H") so I'm not going to apologize for the quality.
