    Barred-owl flexing
I finally saw my first barred owl today. It was about 10 ft from the ground and twenty feet from us on the drive way to the parking lot of the sanctuary. We were told it had been there for a week and so were used to people now. I of course took quite a few perching shots, which I believe many of you have seen or taken tons of them in your life time. Then the owl started paying attention to something on the ground near the tree. This shot was taken after he flew down, finished his investigation, satisfied, flexed its muscles a bit and was about to get back up to the tree.

Also saw a Northern Saw-whet owl today. It was hiding in the shadow. That owl is tiny ! If not pointed out by somebody in the know, I would never see it. Took some shots but mainly for the record.

Great shot - love the face’s crispness and blurred wings.

Funny – by any chance is the sanctuary you mentioned the Reifel Migratory? Because the way you describe the owl’s location sounds a lot like Reifel.:yesnod:

I was there sometime ago, and there was also a Barred owl sitting in a tree next to the dirt driveway. The people at the sanctuary said that it had been there for a while and arrived every morning/evening. (Those blackberry branches look mighty familiar too...)

And you may not believe it - but on that visit of mine to RMBS, I also saw a Northern Saw-whet owl exactly the way you describe it's location and that someone pointed out the bird!!!!!
