Wow, great shots! What gear did you use and how close did you get? I really like the shot of the badger with the baby pronghorn.

I used several different camera's in that collection of photos. Most were taken with my poiint and shoot camera (Panasonic FZ-35 at the time). Some were taken with my Olympus E-3 and the marmot and badger that is coming right at you in which you can't see his claws, were taken with my Olympust E-5.

The badger that is coming at you and you can see his claws was taken last fall with my Panasonic FZ-35.

Most of those photos were taken at around 10 yards plus or minus, with the exception of the one who is in his hole. I was laying on the ground, not 2 or 3 feet from him. I had a buddy watching me and he said I was crazy for doing that. But I have done crazier things, like taking a black bear photo at just feet away, after I had t hit him with a stick to keep him away. But that's a whole different story.

I like to get close to critters, but not that close to bears of course. I have a moose charge me while I was trying to take his photo some years back. I turned to run and slipped and fell in the snow, and he stopped just feet away, with his antlers only several feet from my face.

The photo above was taken with my Panasonic FZ-35 That was a great little camera for a PandS.

The following photo was taken with my Olympus E-5 and my Zukio 50-200 lens at about 10 yards or so.

Nice captures. I don't know too much about either species but that badger seems to be in top condition.

Each of the badger photos are different badgers but they are hunters and cover quite an area to eat. They eat rabbits, squirrels etc. and get most by digging in the ground when their prey run down their hole. If you look closely at their claws, you can imagine how fast they can dig. They are not fast runners per sey, but they will turn on you in a minute, if you get too close. They are protectd in most states nowadays, but can be taken in many states with a fur bearers license.

I just like to take their photo. At the end of this week I am heading to Wyoming to spend a couple weeks in their home range and hopefully will be able to get a photo or two of badgers, alnong with antelope and hopefully be lucky enough to take a photo or two of a coyote. I think it should happen it it stays dry.

I see lots of marmot and their smaller cousins the pika around here, but never a badger. I hear they are around but I never seem to see one. Love all those shots! This makes me want to go find a badger to shoot!

I spent the last week in Wyoming and I sure took a lot of badger photos. I squeaked like a small rodent and this guy headed right for me. He was less than 3 yrads when I took this photo. I got a lot of other photos of him that are far better than this one, but this one was quite unique I thought.
