    Redwing Blackbird

As a newspaper carrier, I usually don't get a good opportunity to capture a shot like this. But on this morning, I pulled up to a delivery and this redwing blackbird just sat there and luckily, I had my camera sitting beside me and the sun was up. This is straight out of the camera except for an 8 1/2 x 11 crop and the frame. Camera is my Kodak Z 1012 IS on auto. I hope you like it.

Nice to see you posting, Ken! Those P&S digital "super-zooms" can be surprisingly good, can't they?

    Re: Redwing Blackbird

Thanx Alex...yes, it's been a long dry spell. Lost my creative desire for a while. I guess we all go through that once in a while.
As for the camera, I can say that this Kodak doesn't hold a candle to my original Kodak, but I still like it. I have gotten some great shots though that my old Kodak probably would have missed. In some respects though, I think this camera is a little slower. I keep getting a lot of motion blur and haven't been able to figure it out.
I was lucky on this shot. This guy was only about 8' - 10' away. But only for about 3 shots. Didn't need much of the "super zoom"! hehe...
I have since gotten some other nice bird shots and will be posting some more shortly.
    Again, thanx for the comment.

Looking good Ken! I have yet to get a RWBB photo I'm really happy with.

Nothing wrong with using a P&S, you just have to figure out the limitations, and work around them. (That goes for any camera!) Looks like you're doing just that. We've missed you at the photo club meetings. Dave did a really nice presentation for us on Tuesday. I hope you can make it to our field trip on the 31st. If not, I hope to see you at the June meeting.

    Re: Redwing Blackbird

Thanx Michael, RWBB's are hard to capture, they are really skittish. This guy just sat there as I pulled up to a mailbox. Shocked me so much I almost forgot I had my camera with me!!! I didn't even try to do any settings. Since I knew he would fly any moment. And sure enough...he did, but not before this shot!!!
As for the club, and the trip, I have been so swamped recently, that I have been unable to make the meetings. But I wrote Stephen and exlained it to him. I will make as many meetings as possible now that things seem to have slowed a bit, but as for the field trip, since it will be an all day event, I will be unable to make that one.
Anyway, I have missed not being able to make the meetings. I'm glad things are going so good with them.
Hope you're having a great MD weekend!!! Talk to you soon,
    Ken
