    Frog ID please

Can someone please ID this frog for me? It kind of looks like the leopard frog Sushigaijin posted in a different thread but I'm not sure.... the spots and head look a little different.

Yes it is the only position I was able to take picture (the frog was surrounded by some tall plants and a rock wall). The picture was taken in the Syracuse, NY area.

i'd say its probbably the northern leopard frog, but its hard to see the dorsolateral folds in this pic. but it has the light edged spots, and the white line on the lip (or is that just a reflection?). easiest way to differentiate between a leopard and pickeral is to hear them call :-).

He is soooo cute! I just love frogs! Even those stinking bufos that used to scare the crap out of me on late nights coming home in hawaii lol (In the dark they look like leaves, but then they move! lol)

My friends dog used to pick them up with his mouth and carry them around, he wouldn't try to eat them... just carry them around (I'm still amazed that he never got sick). My friend lived in Hilo, I'm only guessing they are the same kind of frog.

Here is another frog that should be easy for someone to ID (they lose most of their color when the mature).

thats a green frog, the large tempanic membranes, and the dorsolateral folds give it away easyly.

    Re: Frog ID please

here i found it. this is probbably the toad you are talking about in hawaii. its a terrible invasive (esp in australia) and i found this one while hiking in hawaii (should have killed it, i rrealized as it hopped out of my hands)

its Bufo marinus - the cane toad, notice the large paratoid glands behind the eyes, that can kill dogs if ingested.

THE CANE TOAD!!! Thanks Dylan! Now I remember... it was a looooong time ago when I was there. Did you happen to get any pictures of a mongoose while you were there? I remember some local kids had one in a wire-mesh cage and wow was that one pi&&ed critter!

    Re: Frog ID please

i did see a few mongooses, while i was in the pool, but i didn't get any pics.
    reasons:
1 they are fast little buggers
2 i was in the pool, so no camera.

Yeah.. bufos are very toxic to dogs and cats.. or humans if they are silly enough not to wash their hands after touching them! ;) Bufo's can get as large as a small cat too.
