Itsy Bitsy Spider + Dinner!

Thought i would take the 20D, 50mm and the 25mm tube down to the fields to see what i could find in the "little world" as i call it.:idea:

I felt a little guilty as i was trying to photograph the Hovver fly on a dandelion plant when i touched it (still getting to grips with the tubes) it went straight into the web, the spider shot out and before i know it it was wrapping it up in its thread, not meant to happen! but got these photos from it, but still got to practice more with these tubes.

I have attached image 4 to show how small this spider was.

Way to put those tubes to work! I am like you, still trying to figure those things out. There are so many different ways to use them. They really open up whole new world. Good job!!:thumbsup:

Thanks Big Baldo, yes its quite a challenge but its also quite addictive, been out on and off today looking for more little critters to get tubed!

Great job, Bev. A 25mm on a 50mm is quite a magnification at a very small distance (as you found out ). Love the first and last one - your focus is right on. Hope you used the lean in / lean out technique for focusing.

Looks like you have quite a bit of dust on your sensor.

I have tried to remember all your advice on using tubes Loupey, and one of those was to lean in lean out, although sometimes i have ended up nose first in the shubbery! balance lost, subject well gone (or squashed), but i now feel i am getting the knack of it, and i know i couldnt believe it when i checked the photo for dust, i thought i had cloned alot of the "bunnies" out, but i have now given all kit a good cleaning.

Payn in answer to your question, this spider was as big as your thumb nail, its the big hairy ones like Erik photographs id be more scared of, but its snakes that make me go cold, always have had a phobia about them, always looking on the ground when out in fields, but when i have found them, the photographer bit kicks in i suppose, and although the blood has gone from my body, i still click away for that shot!

Excellent shots Bev, I still can't believe you recovered enough to get the shots.

Thought of working with Attenborough? or sending them to National Geographic?

Thanks Roger, i was surprised how reasonable the tubes cost, i think i only paid about £40 for them last summer, and they have become a big part of my kit, the 50mm i got second hand from ffordes photographic at £30, so not a bad macro combo really, especially when you have to pay 100's for one good macro lense, and the tubes are so versatile.

Yes its amazing how quick you recover when the thought of loosing a shot entres the head!

Oh i would love it if i ever got a picture published in Nat.Geo. but i look at others in there and i think to myself i have so much more to learn!

As much as I like Canon's equipment, I would definitely recommend NON-Canon since there are no glass and no electronics (basically). For the price of 1 Canon tube, you can get a set of 3 Kenko's.

Besides, I wouldn't get a commission check if you didn't buy a Kenko (joking of course).

Tubes are tubes.
No optics.

Even Jessops auto tubes for canon work fine.
Though they feel really cheap, and have awful bayonet release buttons.
I'd prefer something better quality but they do the job.

I didn't read all of the tubes discussion, but thought I should mention that for Nikon users, the tube choices that will meter are limited to the Kenko brand, so far as I've seen. Nikon brand tubes and the non-Kenko ones I've sen don't have the electronic contacts require to meter.
