    Another Digiscoping Bird Site

Here is a link to a site that features some really nice digiscoped bird shots, along with some interesting articles about birds. This guy is from Wisconsin and lives about an hour or so from me. I have never met him, but another photog friend of mine sent me the link, and I thought the folks here would enjoy it as well.

    Re: Another Digiscoping Bird Site

I guess I spoke too soon. I went looking for the Snowy Owl that Mike McDowell posted on his site, and he was there. I talked to him for a bit, and he was kind enough to let me look thru his spotting scope (no camera attached). I knew those things were powerful, but not THAT powerful!!! We were standing on top of a hill, about a half mile away from a Snowy Owl, sitting on top of a silo. (see bird ID thread) I bet if he had his camera set up, he would have been able to fill most of the frame with that bird, from that distance. I was truely impressed.

Those digiscopers are onto something. Much more bang for your buck when it comes to zooming in on wildlife.

Ah, but most digiscopers DO NOT take images at 60x on the scope and get images anywhere near as clear as that image is.Most use a 20x, 32x, 40x FIXED eyepiece to digiscope seriously. But, yes digiscoping is a handy tool !

Not to sound like a one upper but , My brother owns that very swarovski scope and The pentax 80mm scope is so very close in quality until twilight, that I'd save that extra $1000 the current swarovski costs for DSLR/50F1.4 , an adapter , a bogen 501 head and wooden legs ;)

You are absolutely correct. I read on his site that almost all of his photos are taken at 20x, and that a fixed eyepiece would be a little sharper. Towards the bottom of this page is what he had to say about it.
